Korean Beauty Favorites

Hi All!

I’ve been loving Korean makeup for a while now, and have been experimenting with the Korean Skin care routine, so I wanted to share my current faves as well as what ones I’m currently dying to try!

Korean Makeup Essentials: These are my go to BB creams!

  1. Missha Perfect cover BB cream in color 13 Milky Beige ,  This BB cream is very light with good coverage, it is thick for a bb cream and has a nice consistency. I love to use it in winter when my skin needs more moisture and I am the most pale.
  2. SKIN79 The Prestige Beblesh Balm BB Cream Diamond Collection, This BB cream is perfect for everyday wear. It does have a greyish tone to it which I wasn’t sure about but I fell in love with how it makes my skin look! Great coverage and lasts a very long time!  Skin79 also has a sample pack on Amazon that you can test out some of their BB’s to find your fave.

Korean Skin Care Essentials: These are part of my current skincare routine! In order of use, too!

  1. Innisfree Olive Real Cleansing Tissue, These are hands down the best makeup wipes I’ve ever used. They have a light healthy scent and one wipe cleans off all of my makeup. Claims to have antioxidants and vitamins to help skin, but they are seriously amazing wipes.
  2. The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam, This is a lightly scented face wash that is very effective at making your skin feel squeaky clean!  Simple and effective.
  3. Etude House Baking Powder B.P Deep Cleansing Foam , I got a sample of this with one of my purchases and fell in love with how well it works to clean my face, now that I’m out of Rice water foam, I plan on picking this one up!
  4. SkinFood Black Sugar Face Mask , This is just a great mask/exfoliant combo, which is perfect for winter months when your skin needs extra love.
  5. Benton Snail Bee Essence, I tried this essence because I was new to Korean skincare and it was relatively inexpensive compared to others.  I personally don’t like the smell, but it has snail and bee venom in it which maybe thats the smell.  The bee venom firms the face. If smell doesn’t bother you its a great product for the price ($20)
  6. The Face Shop Rice & Ceramide Moisture Emulsion, This is a great moisturizer, there is a lot of product for the price and has light scent.
  7. Dermal Korea Collagen Essence Full Face Facial Mask Sheet (16 Combo Pack), These aren’t the best sheet masks in the world, but they are super affordable and get the job done.  I hope to check out some more renowned brands in the future!  There are some weird ones in this collections like Vegetable Placenta and bee venom but also some fun ones like wine! I think this is a great intro to face masks for people to try.
  8. The Face Shop Jeju Tangerine Sleeping Mask, I like to use this in the fall and winter when my skin needs extra moisture! It smells so good and in the morning my skin is so plump from absorbing the mask over night. It comes with a large amount of product too which is good because it seems to be out of stock everywhere I look.

Korean Beauty Lust List: These are products I’d love to get my hands on to try next!

  1. Etude House Sleeping Pack Bubble Tea: Black Tea, I really want to try this next once my current sleeping mask is finished.  It has cute tapioca inspired hydrating pearls and the packaging is adorable.  There are three different flavors, green tea, black tea and strawberry. It just looks like such a fun product!
  2. Chateau Labiotte Wine Lip Tint, I’ve seen quite a few reviews of this product and would love to try it and recommend it to my lip tint friends.  The packaging is a cute wine bottle and there seems to be a variety of colors.  There is also apparently a nice scent and I’m glad that they have small sample sizes too!
  3. Skinfood Peach Sake Toner and Emulsion, I’m currently using a traditional american toner and I know that Korean ones are gentler on the skin and overall have a different purpose.  Korean toners are applied similarly to moisturizers and it preps the skin to absorb moisture which is why its after the cleanser step.  This one has gotten a lot of love on blogs so I think it would be a good starting point.
  4. Neogen Green Tea Real Fresh Foam Cleanser, This looks so luxiourous and I’m sure it smells great. I’m mostly sold on the packaging!
  5. [TONYMOLY] I’m Real Mask Sheet Pack of 11, I want to try more masks but I want it to be affordable so these mask packs have a variety of ones to try!
  6. Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask Sheet Pack of 15 I want to try more masks and want it to be affordable and I love variety!
  7. The Face Shop Living Nature Grind Mask Sheet x 15pcs, Like the two above I want ones that come in a pack and are reasonably priced since the skin care routine has you do them at least once a week

Marilyn Monroe Take 2!

ImageI decided to do another Marilyn Monroe look and this time I think I nailed it! I tried to improve my look from last time by focusing on her brows, as well as her part and trying to get her facial expressions down!  This time I used Mon Ennui Cosmetics Angel pigment a sheer nude sparkly color with some Spy Pack items that will not be mentioned…along with Besame Cosmetics Lipstick In Red Hot Red mixed with some Red Cherry! I also rubbed some of that on my cheeks!  Another thing that helped my look was to do my part the way that she did! I hope you guys like this look!

Marilyn Monroe Tutorial

Marilyn Monroe has been an icon for classic beauty. I was inspired by her look for a Pinup/burlesque Contest going on at Mon Ennui Cosmetics.  Below is a tutorial on how to achieve her timeless look.

Face:

1.  Conceal and use a foundation that you like, I used L’Oreal True Match in C1.

2. Set with powder on a Kabuki brush for a flawless finish!

Eyes:

1. Fill in your brows and try to create an arched shape, you can use a photo of Marilyn to help you out.

2. Apply a pale shimmery white/offwhite to the whole eye area.  I used Mon Ennui Cosmetics Antique Pearl, a pearly shimmery highlighter color in an off white ( https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=221094364635633&set=a.196849527060117.47267.179910115420725&type=3&theater Photo of it here).

3.I then took a metallic silver and applied it to the whole lid area and extending it to the inner corner and under the eye. I used Mon Ennui Cosmetics Slipper a high shine metallic silver (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=209697792441957&set=a.196849527060117.47267.179910115420725&type=3&theater Photo here).

4.  I took a matte brown and lightly at first, drew a crease higher than my natural crease to create a large eyed illusion, similar to Marilyn in photos.  I used the same brown that I filled my brows in. Darken this area as needed to create a sharp darkened crease for depth.

5. Take eyeliner of your choice, I used Milani’s liquif’eye liner in black and created a thin line on the upper lashline and extending it out to a small cateye.  A good reference on how far you should go is to meet the brown shape you made in the crease area.

6. Take a brown color and using a liner brush accentuate the lower lashline.

7. Use a mascara of choice and use a few coats to get large lashes, add false ones if desired.

Lips & Cheeks

1.  Use  a liner to fill in your lips to get the desired shape. I already have very full lips so I just filled in my natural lashline but you can alter yours to be like Marilyn’s or create any lipshape you want.  Fill in with the pencil.

2. Using a lipbrush or straight from the tube, apply a red lipstick (Monroe used reds with a more orange undertone but choose whatever red fits your mood!) I used Besame’s Red Hot Red, a replica of Monroe’s favorite color! Clean up the edges with concealer/foundation for a crisp bold lip!

3. Take a small amount of the same lipstick and apply to the cheekbone area and BLEND!

4. using liquid liner you can either make a fake beauty mark, or accentuate a beauty mark that is already on your face (like I did!) I personally like to accentuate a beauty mark that I already have, it makes each look different in my opinion!

Accessories

1. Curl your hair or use a wig!

2. Add flashy diamonds (they are a girls best friend!)

3. Add a sassy dress!

4. Rock a smile!

I hope you guys liked this tutorial!  And head on over to Mon Ennui to make a pinup/burlesque look of your own!

A look using Dream Catcher

I was able to help develop this color with mon Ennui Cosmetics when the company first opened up on Facebook.  This color I named DREAMCATCHER: Bold and beautiful Matte Aqua/Teal with purple color shift/sparkle (when applied with  “Pigment Potion” this color comes to life as a deep teal with purple metallic color shifting magic! when applied dry, it’s a bright beautiful matte with subtle purple opal tones and sparkling purple glints)

The story behind my color is one that is very close to me. The colors are my two favorite colors: teal and purple, I actually have 2 feathers in my hair of each of them. Although I don’t look like it, I am part Native American and I identify with that part of my heritage very much so. They are a bold, brave, intuitive people with kind hearts and mesmerizing stories and music. The name comes from the item, Dreamcatcher, a device that catches bad dreams and lets good ones pass through the holes. To me it means leaving negative things (thoughts and life) behind and going forth to follow my dreams to make them a reality. Without my dreams and ambitions I would not be who I am today. I wish to thank Mon Ennui Cosmetics for this amazing opportunity to create this shade that means a lot to me. ♥

Dream catchers are one of the most fascinating traditions of Native Americans. The traditional dream catcher was intended to protect the sleeping individual from negative dreams, while letting positive dreams through. The positive dreams would slip through the hole in the center of the dream catcher, and glide down the feathers to the sleeping person below. The negative dreams would get caught up in the web, and expire when the first rays of the sun struck them. The dream catcher has been a part of Native American culture for generations. One element of Native American dream catcher relates to the tradition of the hoop. Some Native Americans of North America held the hoop in the highest esteem, because it symbolized strength and unity. Many symbols started around the hoop, and one of these symbols is the dream catcher.

I chose this as the center of the color as inspiration of letting go of past life/negative thoughts and moving forward to follow my dreams of blogging, photography and art/modeling/makeup.

Hey everyone! I love Allison Harvard and we look kind of similar so I’ve been trying to emulate some of her looks that she has done.  I was particularly inspired by the motion editorial from cycle 17 All Star Season. I liked the bold cat eye with a  warm brown and nude lip.

Colorful Winter Wonderland Submission and Tutorial

When I think of a colorful winter wonderland, I think of pastels and metallics.  The spatter of color is reminiscent of the way snow flakes fall on you when you are walking around on a fresh winter day. The lashes are coated in white also representing snowflakes collecting there during a snowstorm! The pastel colors are from the inspiration of a sunrise on a winter day with snow around, everything is softened so dramatically with the snow in its presence. The rhinestones are representative of the way fresh snow glistens when the sun reflects off of the ground.

For this look I went very organic with shapes and soft blended colors in the lips and eyes to obtain a seamless mesh of pastel colors to represent the way the sky blends colors.

How the look was created :

Face: L;Oreal true match foundation in c1 Alabaster all over face blended well.  Lime Crime Magic Dust Shadows in Mirror Mirror *silver*, Empress *dark purple*, Twilight *pale purple*, Mon Ennui Cosmetics shadow in Gold Digger *mustard gold* tapped onto face for spattering pattern.  Apples of cheeks has Mon Ennui Cosmetics shadow in Fairytale *pink gold*

Eyes: Wet application of Dark Heart Designs shadow in Jadis *white silver duochrome with aqua sparkles* all over eyes.  Using the BH 120 color palette, I took a matte dark magenta/purple and applied to the crease, extending to part of the browbone.  Took another color from the BH palette a periwinkle and applied to the outer browbone section, blending with the magenta.  Took an pale aqua from the BH palette and applied to inner part of eye.  Took Dark Heart Designs shadow in Absinthe and applied to center of lid.  I then took the blue colors from the BH palette and colored my brows. Took Milani Liquif’eye liner pencils in black, silver, and gold.  I created a large wing on the top lid with black and brought it under the eye.  The silver was placed in the inner corner of the eye, extending into a point where the nude crystals from Mon Ennui Cosmetics were placed. The silver was also brought out to where the second crystal was placed.  The gold was used to accentuate the tear duct area.  Lash Stilletto by Maybelline was used in 3-4 coats on lashes and while wet, Mon Ennui Cosmetics eyeshadow Lina Blanche was patted onto lashes thickly * a white with pale purple undertones*

Lips: Lime Crime Opaque Lipstick in D’liliac on outer lips, then applied Lime Crime Opaque Lipstick in Airborne Unicorn to center lip.

I hope you enjoyed my look! I had a lot of fun pushing my creativity to make this look! XO

Color Changing Cat Eye

Hello! Today’s look is a color changing teal and purple cateye.  These are two of my favorite colors so I had to do this look.  I had participated in a makeup look contest for Mon Ennui cosmetics.  Everyone who entered recieved samples of the new colors and the two winners got the colors named after them! Lina Blanche, a shimmery white with purple sparkles, and Jaime Noir a black with teal sparkles. When blended together the color changing happens! It also comes out upon adding the shadow to water for a more metallic lavender and teal color.  I paired this look with Lime Crime’s D’lilac since the colors were so so similar.   I used a peachy blush to warm up the cool colored look.

The color changing magic that is expressed when both colors are blended together
